Baseball Earns Seven All-ASC Honors

After an historic season on the diamond the Louisiana College baseball team received seven all-conference awards, the American Southwest Conference announced on Wednesday. Deauton Delgado picked up the teams only first team selection while the Wildcats earned five second team and one third team honor this year.

Delgado picks up his second straight first team utility player honor this year for his performance both on the mound and at the plate and the field. He hit .341 on the season with eight home runs and 38 RBI. On the mound he was 7-4 with a 4.70 ERA in a team-high 67.0 innings pitched and 13 starts and 60 strikeouts. He also threw the second no-hitter in school history as he shut down then #11 Concordia. He moved into first all-time in career home runs with 22 and is the first player in LC history with 20 career home runs, 100 runs scored, 100 RBI, 100 hits, 10 pitching wins, and 100 strikeouts.

The Wildcats had five players earn a second team spot this season with Brady Atkins leading the way with his second straight all-conference honor, this time at second base. Joining Atkins on the team was Clayton Noakes at third, Keelyn Johnson at short, Dylan Keller at designated hitter, and Andrew Robinson as a starting pitcher.

Atkins had a stellar season moving back into the infield after spending the 2018 season in left. He hit .379 this year with 64 hits, setting a new LC single-season record. Atkins' double-play partner Keelyn Johnson earned his first all-ASC award this year with a .341 average, four homers, and 36 batted. He is one of the best middle infielders in the conference with just three errors in 80 chances this season for a .976 fielding percentage.

Noakes was a force in the middle of the LC lineup all season blasting a team best 11 home runs with 46 RBI and a new single-season record 109 total bases. He finished second in both homers and slugging percentage for a season in LC history. Dylan Keller a new LC single-season record with a .430 batting average, just the second player to finish the season above .400 on the season. He had 37 hits in 86 at-bats with a pair of homeruns and 23 batted in.

Andrew Robinson capped off an impressive season with his first all-ASC honors. He went 9-1 on the year with a 3.26 ERA in 11 starts. He threw the Wildcats' first nine-inning complete game shutout in school history this year, with two full nine-inning games on the year. He filled the strike zone all year with 47 strikeouts to only 11 walks in 66.1 innings of work.

Christian Vandergrift earned a spot on the ASC third team this season turning in a .339 batting average with 57 hits, five home runs, and 37 RBI. He led the team with 11 stolen bases on 13 attempts and went the entire year without making an error in the outfield, converting on all 69 chances he was given to make an out.

The 2019 LC baseball team will go down as one of the best under Head Coach Mike Byrnes. They broke 10 team records including becoming the first team to win 30 games in a season. Of the seven all-conference players for the Wildcats this year, five of them will return to the field for the 2020 season.
