Wildcats Drop Finale to Patriots

4/15/2018 5:14:00 PM

Box Score

After picking up a split on the doubleheader Saturday the Louisiana College baseball team could not hold off the University of Texas at Tyler on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats took a lead midway through the game but six unanswered runs gave the Patriots the 9-5 win in the series finale. LC will play their final home series of the season this weekend as they host LeTourneau University on Friday and Saturday at Billy Allgood Field.

As they did in the first two games of the series UTT got on the board first with an early run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single to right. The Wildcats had an answer though in the top of the next inning with a leadoff double by Brady Atkins, who eventually scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. The Patriots retook the lead in the fourth with a 2-out rally that resulted in a 2-run double to left center field.

As they did earlier in the game the Wildcats responded in their next at-bat. The first three batters of the frame reached safely to load the bases with no-out. An RBI groundout from Deauton Delgado got the Wildcats within a run then two batters later Steven Pizano ripped a sharp single to left to bring in two more and put the Wildcats on top for the first time in the game. Following a pitching change, LC got another run courtesy of a wild pitch to take the 5-3 advantage to the bottom of the fifth.

The Patriots had an answer of their own however in the bottom of the inning, with the first six batters reaching safely, with the Wildcats getting just one out on a fielder's choice along the way. UTT scored three runs in the inning on five hits and an LC throwing error to retake the lead for good.

The Wildcats only managed one more hit the rest of the game off the Tyler bullpen and two total base runners. Another three run inning for UTT in the seventh extended their lead on an RBI single and a 2-run double.

Leadoff batter Brady Atkins was the only Wildcats with multiple hits in the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Steven Pizano had one hit with two RBI and Deauton Delgado picked up and RBI in the game as well.

The Wildcats host their annual "Austism Awarenss Game" on Friday evening at 6 p.m. at Billy Allgood field against LeTourneau. They then play their final games of the season at home on Saturday for a senior day doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Stay connected to Louisiana College baseball by following @LC_bsb on Twitter.
