Box Score

After a long layoff between games due to weather conditions postponing Monday's contest, the Louisiana College baseball team returned to action, and American Southwest Conference play on Friday night. The Wildcats hosted Sul Ross State University in the first game of a three game set, a game the Lobos would win 6-2 at Billy Allgood Field. The teams finish their series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12pm on Saturday.

In the top of the second inning two single and a walk created the first major scoring threat for the Lobos in the game. A sharp single through the left side brought one run in, and after an easy fly ball to center gave LC two outs in the inning, it appeared as if they might be able to limit the damage. A 1-0 pitcher went screaming down the left field line and gave Sul Ross a 3-0 lead early in the game.

The next four innings moved along at a blistering pace as both teams swung early in the counts against the opposing pitchers. Sul Ross added a run in the fourth on an RBI single through the left side but the Wildcats struggled to get base runners. The Lobos scored two more on a single to left with runners at second and third to extend their lead to 6-0 entering the bottom of the seventh.

The Wildcats first run of the game came as Duncan Cornfoot scored on a ground ball to first, after he reached by being hit by a pitch to start the inning. Despite sending six batters to the plate in the inning the Wildcats only had one hit and scored just the one run in the frame. A double from Steven Pizano in the eighth brought in the Wildcats only other run of the game as Deauton Delgado came in from third on the hit. That was the last threat the Wildcats would have in the game as the ninth ended with three straight strikeouts to complete the game.

Steven Pizano was the only Wildcats with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sully Martin, Deauton Delgado, and Brayden Miles each added singles in the game. Blayne Haro (2-2) took the loss going 6.0 innings allowing six runs on seven hits with seven walks. Andrew Robinson pitched the final 3.0 scoreless innings allowing two hits with two strikeouts.

The Wildcats and Lobos will resume their series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Billy Allgood Field.
