Wildcats Throw Well at Lafayette

3/18/2018 1:24:00 PM

The Louisiana College men's and women's track and field teams made their way to Lafyetter, La this weekend to compete in the Louisiana Classics hosted by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. The Wildcats were the only NCAA Division III team competing over the weekend against D-I programs ULL, LSU, McNeese State, Southern University and others. It would once again be the throwing events where the Wildcats would shine earning top 10 finishes in both the women's shot put and men's javelin, just missing a top 10 finish in women's javelin as well.

Dylan Fuselier set a new personal best and school record with his throw in the javelin once again this week. His mark of 166'-8" was six feet longer than his previous best mark three weeks ago at the Mississippi College opener. Fuselier finished ninth in the event, the only non-Division I thrower in the top 10. Fellow javelin thrower LaRyan Jones also had a good showing with a new personal best at 150'-10" earning him a 14th place finish.

The throwing events for the women were just as successful during the weekend as Brooke Jones earned another top 10 finish with a mark of 36'-8.5", less than inch ahead of Sydney McSlarrow from Southeastern Louisiana. In the women's javelin Gracie Lacroix once again finished well with a throw of 105'-1", putting her in 12th at the end of the event, just four feet from the top 10.

Other notable finishes include Myshere Johnson running her fifth fastest time in the women's 400 meters and Devyn Allen throwing his fourth longest discus mark. The Wildcats have three weeks before their next meet, which will take place in Lake Charles, La at the Spring Time Classic hosted by McNeese State University.
