Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The strong start to the 2018 season continued on Saturday for the Louisiana College baseball team as they picked up another doubleheader sweep. The Wildcats took down Loyola University of New Orleans in the double dip 12-3 and 9-6 to improve to 6-0 on the young season. The Wildcats travel to Sherman, Texas for a four game stint with Austin College next weekend.

Game 1

The offensive production continued in spades for the Wildcats in the first game of Saturday's pair with LC notching 12 runs on 14 hits in the convincing win. Duncan Cornfoot plated the first run of the game on an RBI single through the left side. With the bases loaded for Steven Pizano two batters later, the senior delivered with a 2-run single to right, with a third run scoring on an error in right field. The Wildcats were out to a 5-0 lead before Loyola even had a chance to take a swing at the plate.

LC added to their lead in the third on a Blaine Ouber sacrifice fly to right, then Pizano delivered two more RBI's in the fifth on a base hit to left making the score 8-2 Cats. Deauton Delgado continued his production at the plate as well with a 2-run single down the left field line in the top of the sixth that gave the Wildcats an 11-2 advantage.

Sully Martin was the prime table setter for the Wildcats in game one, reaching base on four hits, and scoring three runs in the game. Steven Pizano went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the game and Deauton Delgado was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

With the offense clicking it was an easy go for the two Wildcats pitchers in the game as junior transfer Blayne Haro picked up his first win at LC going 4.0 innings allowing two runs on three his with three strikeouts. Senior Trey Ducote picked up his first save of the year as well throwing the final 3.0 innings allowing just one run on four hits with two punch-outs.

Game 2

Things appeared to be going the same way for the Wildcats early in the second game of the day as they pushed across six runs in the top of the second inning to take a commanding lead. It was a 2-out rally that led to the early lead for the Cats as a bases loaded error at third extended the inning and allowed two runs to score at the same time. Sully Martin delivered an RBI single to right, then came in to score on a bases clearing double to deep left center off the bat of Duncan Cornfoot.

The Wildcats had a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning when Loyola put together a rally of their own. Three hits and three walks from the seven batters of the inning chased Wildcat starter Hunter Eyre from the game and brought the Wolfpack with slam range with the bases loaded. They added two more to their total after the pitching change and were down 7-5 after the third.

The lead remained at two until the top of the fifth when Steven Pizano gave the Cats some more breathing room on an RBI-groundout. The final runs of the game both came in the seventh inning for both teams as transfer Brayden Miles brought in Blaine Ouber on a base hit to right. Loyola hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning but it was too little too late as the Wildcats won game two 9-6.

Nine different players had at least one hit in the game for the Wildcats with Sully Martin and Dustin Brown each coming through with two hits each. Duncan Cornfoot and Deauton Delgado each had doubles in the game and Brady Atkins, Blaine Ouber, and Zane Corbell all swiped a bag on the bases.

Hunter Eyre made the start on the mound for the Wildcats, going 2.1 innings before handing the reigns to Phillip Vidrine. The junior from Ville Platte pitched the final 4.2 inning giving up just one run on three hits with four strikeouts in his first win of the season.
