Box Score

The Louisiana College women's basketball team picked up a needed American Southwest Conference win on Saturday, 67-52 over Concordia University. The victory improves the Wildcats to 7-5 overall and evens their ASC record at 3-and-3. LC travels to the University of Texas at Tyler and the University of the Ozarks next weekend for another set of conference games.

The Wildcats put the disappointing loss on Thursday evening to Mary Hardin-Baylor behind them quickly as they came out strong in the game Saturday afternoon. LC started the game on an 18-8 run to push their lead into double figures in just seven minutes of play. A pair of layups by Concordia were the only baskets scored in the final three minutes of the quarter, but LC held the 18-12 advantage after the first 10 minutes of the game.

The second quarter was controlled mostly by the Tornado who found their stroke midway through the period. CTX nearly doubled up the Wildcats scoring over the final seven minutes of the half, out dueling LC 13-7 to take the lead into the half break. Two free throws with two seconds left in the half put Concordia on top 31-30 after a turnover and foul as the Wildcats were playing for the final shot of the half.

Coming out of the half, the Wildcats went right to work and put their foot on the pedal offensively. A free throw by Brooke Jones 27 seconds into the quarter tied the game at 31 and began a 9-0 run to start the second half by the Wildcats. Overall LC outscored CTX 18-5 in the quarter to take the 48-36 lead into the final quarter. The LC defense held the Tornado without a field goal for the entire 10 minutes, going 0-for-10 in the third.

The Wildcat defense held Concordia without a field goal for more than 14 straight minutes of game time spanning the second through the fourth quarters. The dominant third quarter put the Wildcats in prime position to pick up their first conference road win of the season, and LC would not let this one slip through their grasp. A 50 percent shooting performance in the fourth quarter (6-12) and converting on 6-of-9 free throws propelled the Wildcats to the 67-52 win in Austin, Texas.

Brooke Jones led all scorers with 23 points in the game, her fifth 20-point game of the season, and Kourtney McGhee put in 16 in the game. RyDeja McQuarn had nine points and five assists in the win as well.

The Wildcats make the trip to UT Tyler next Thursday then to Ozarks on Saturday for another pair of ASC road matchups.
