Box Score

After being forced to trade their home games scheduled for this week due to issues at H.O. West Fieldhouse, the Louisiana College women's basketball team were not able to overcome the stingy zone defense of East Texas Baptist University. A total of 21 turnovers led to the Wildcats 83-60 loss to the Tigers on Thursday night in Marshall. LC will take on LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Texas in the their next outing.

The Wildcats got out to a strong start in the first few minutes of the game, taking a 10-4 lead after a long ball from Kourtney McGhee. An 11-2 run by the Tigers over the next four minutes of play gave them a three point lead with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. That would turn out to be the final lead change of the night as ETBU outscored the Wildcats in each of the next three quarters.

The Tigers held a 41-31 lead at the halftime, but the Wildcats were able to find some early rhythm coming out in the third quarter. LC started with a 12-4 run at the beginning of the second half that got them back within a single possession at 46-44. Two three-pointers from Taylor Payne and a layup and free throw from RyDeja McQuarn on three consecutive possessions were the key plays during the first four minutes of the half.

The Tigers stopped the momentum with eight quick points to push their lead back to a more comfortable margin. By the end of the third quarter ETBU once again held a double-digit advantage at 62-50, with just 10 minutes remaining.

The Wildcats made one more push at the beginning of the fourth quarter, starting with an 8-2 advantage over ETBU through the first three minutes to make the score 64-58. The Wildcats would only be able to muster five more points the rest of the game, going 2-for-10 from the field with four costly turnovers.

All five starters finished with double-digit points in the game led by Brooke Jones' 14 and Kourtney McGhee's 13. Zharian Maxmillion ended with 12 points , RyDeJa McQuarn with 11, and Taylor Payne with 10.

The Wildcats take on LeTourneau Saturday afternoon in Longview as they try and even their conference record with another weekend split.
