Baseball Takes Final ASC Road Trip

The Louisiana College baseball team will play their final three road American Southwest Conference games this week against the University of Texas at Dallas. The Wildcats currently hold the seventh spot in the ASC standings, with six conference games remaining and only eight playoff spots available for the post season ASC tournament. The Wildcats will play a non-conference home-and-home with Centenary next weekend before wrapping up the season at Billy Allgood Field April 28-29 against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

UT Dallas  |  22-8 (11-4)  3rd ASC

2515The Comets come into the series with the Wildcats off a midweek, non-conference game against Concordia (TX) where the Tornados took down the nationally ranked UTD 8-5. In their last series, last weekend, UTD won two of three games against Belhaven in Mississippi, the lone loss coming in extra innings in Friday's opener.

The Comets have been one of the best hitting teams in the ASC all season long. They have five players batting over .370 on the season, and three players hitting over .400. Isaiah Swann leads the team with a .404 average with seven doubles and 16 runs batted in. Barry Casey and Ryan Burciaga are right behind with .402 averages and Casey leads the team in hits (51), home runs (6) and RBI (42). As a team the Comets are hitting .345 and are averaging 8.3 runs and 12.1 hits per game this year. 

On the mound, the probable starters for Thursday's doubleheader will be Jamie Andriot (6-0) and Ruben Renteria (7-0). Both pitchers have more than 50 innings pitched this year and are undefeated in 13 combined decisions. Renteria has the best ERA of any pitcher with more than 20 innings of work at 1.59. Andriot is averaging 6.6 strikeouts per outing and just under a strikeout per inning this year.

5201The Wildcats picked up an exciting walk-off win last week in the series opener over the University of Texas at Tyler before losing both games of the series doubleheader on Saturday. Overall LC is 4-5 in their last three conference series.

As a team the Wildcats are batting .306 on the season and averaging 7.1 runs and 9.7 hits per game. Seth Stevens continues to be the Wildcats batting leader, with a .400 average, and team-highs in runs, hits, RBI, and slugging. Ashton Martin is continuing his best season as a Wildcat with a .351 average with 34 hits and 14 RBI. LC has five players with .300 or better batting averages this year.

Charlie Waddingham has been the ace for the Wildcats all season long, compiling a 5-1 record in nine starts and a 2.07 ERA. He has thrown 61.0 innings allowing 5.7 hits per appearance and 2.4 runs per game. Austin Thompson leads the team with 47 strikeouts and a .235 opponents batting average amongst pitchers with more than 20 innings pitched this year.

The Wildcats play their second straight nationally ranked ASC opponent in Dallas, and will take on their third straight next weekend with a four game home-and-home series with Centenary College of Shreveport. The first two games of that series will be played at Billy Allgood Field Friday, before the teams play two more in Shreveport on next Saturday.
