Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Louisiana College baseball team was swept in a series opening doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in Texas by the University of Texas at Dallas. The UTD scored nine runs in the first two innings of game one and went on to a 14-5 win, and the Comets Jamie Andriot held the LC offense to just two hits in game two in route to an 8-0 win. The series will finish with a single game Friday beginning at 12 p.m.

Game 1

In the first game of the day, the Wildcats fell behind early when UTD scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Hunter Eyre, in his first ASC start of the season, got the second out of the inning on a ground ball to third with runners at first and second. After a walk on a three ball two strike count loaded the bases, the next batter ripped the next pitch to left to plate the first two runs of the game. On the next offering, the Comets extended their lead on a home run to left field, plating three more runs. Scoring five runs on two pitches with two hits.

The Wildcats got a lead off walk in the second but three straight out left another runner stranded on the base paths. In the bottom of the inning the Comets extended their early lead even further. A walk, double, and hit batter loaded the bases once again, this time with no outs. Eyre struck the next batter out, but the first pitch of the at-bat to Comets clean-up hitter was sent over the left field wall for a grand slam.

The Wildcats rallied in the top of the third inning, that started with a bases loaded double off the bat of Deauton Delgado down the right field line. Kiefer Moore hit the next pitch to right for an RBI single, and Duncan Cornfoot followed suit with a base hit down the right field line for another run. The fifth and final run of the day for LC came on an RBI fielder's choice from Steven Pizano.

The Comets answered in the bottom of the inning with a run on an infield single to third. The fourth inning was the only time neither team scored a run and Wildcat relief pitcher Andrew Robinson got the only three up, three down frame of the game in the bottom of the inning.

The five-run third was the only time the Wildcats scored in the game, although they had runners in scoring position in both the fourth and fifth innings, but could not bring them around. LC left 10 runners on base in the game.

Seth Stevens (3-4) and Duncan Cornfoot (2-4), making his return to the starting lineup for the first time in two weeks, were the only Wildcats with multiple hits in the game. Stevens and Deauton Delgado both had doubles in the first game. Hunter Eyre took his first loss of the season, giving up 10 runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work. Andrew Robinson pitched 3.1 inning of relief allowing four runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

Game 2

In the second game of the day, the Wildcats offense was held in check throughout the game by Comets' starting pitcher Jamie Andriot. The junior walked two batters in the first inning but got out of it unscathed, and then gave up two hits to the Wildcats in the second but once again got out of the frame without allowing a run.

The Ashton Martin, 2-out single in the top of the second was the second and final hit of the game for LC. Andriot walked two more batters in the third but then went on a stretch of 10 batters in a row retired, through the seventh inning. It wasn't until Steven Pizano reached on an error that the stretch was ended. After the error, Andriot continued to dominate, getting the next eight batters out in order to end the game.

Even with Andriot's performance keeping the Wildcats offense in check, they were still very much in the game through the first six innings. Dallas scored in the bottom of the first on a single through the left side, and added another in the fourth, taking advantage of a Wildcat error in the inning. It wasn't until the seventh that the game got out of reach for LC, as the Comets broke things open with a five run inning, that included a bases loaded double, and a 2-run triple in back-to-back at-bats.

The Wildcats only two hits in the game came from Steven Pizano and Ashton Martin, both in the second inning. Austin Thompson pitched well for LC through the first six innings giving up three runs on six hits, before allowing four runs and four hits in the bottom of the seventh. Carson Bolyer and Trey McNeal pitched the final 2.0 innings allowing one run on one hit between them.

The three-game series against the Comets concludes on Friday with a single game beginning at 12 p.m. from Richardson, Texas. LC returns to Billy Allgood Field next weekend for a doubleheader against Centenary College on Friday and a road doubleheader with the Gents on Saturday in Shreveport.
