Baseball Faces ASC Rival ETBU

After a 4-1 weekend in the Marler Ford Classic and a midweek loss to #6 LSU on Tuesday, the Louisiana College Wildcats will resume American Southwest Conference play this weekend with a three game road series agaisnt rival East Texas Baptist University. The three game set is scheduled for a single game Friday at 7 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

2516The Tigers enter the series against LC having lost their last two game, both in extra innings. ETBU fell by one-run to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a nine inning and 13 inning affair. The Tigers are hitting .274 on the season, which ranks them eighth in the ASC, but they lead the conference in home runs with 19 this year, and rank third behind the Wildcats in runs scored. Senior Connor Combs leads the team with a .343 batting average with three home runs and 18 runs batted in. Zach Gartner leads the team in home runs with five, and Laden Burns tops the Tigers in RBI with 21 this year.

ETBU's top pitcher this year has been relief pitcher Logan Sprinkle. He has made eight appearance all out of the bullpen, throwing 20.0 innings only allowing four runs with 11 strikeouts. Seven differnt pitchers have made at least one start for the Tigers this season, and each pitcher has a greater than 4.00 earned run average.

5201The Wildcats return to ASC play this weekend against rival ETBU, LC los ttheir midweek matchup with LSU after hanging with the Tigers for the better part of the game. LC will look to build off the momentum they gained from last weekend's Marler Ford Classic where they won four of their five games, getting eight or more hits in all five of their games. Ashton Martin continues to lead the team in batting with a .417 average and has already surpasses his season totals from last season in hits, runs, doubles and RBI. Seth Stevens leads the team in most other offensive categories, inclduing RBI (24), home runs (4), hits (30), and runs scored (18).

Despite the 13 runs allowed on Tuesday, the Wildcats are still atop the conference in team pitching with a 3.08 earned run average. Jacob Buchanan is scheduled to start game one against ETBU on Friday. His 1-4 record on the season, has been a result of some tough luck, including a 2-1 loss to Loyola early in the season. He is second on the team in strikeouts (29) and innings pitched (26.0). Charlie Waddingham is the scheduled game two starter with a 3-0 record, getting a no decision in his last two starts. He pitched 7.2 innings against Eureka, allowed four hits and no runs with eight strikeout, but a run in the top of the ninth prevented him from getting his fourth win. The game three starter is still to be determined.

After the three game series agaisnt rival ETBU, the Wildcats will return to Billy Allgood Field for another ASC series against Hardin-Simmons University.
