Baseball Opens Conference with Ozarks

The Louisiana College Wildcats baseball team will begin its American Southwest Conference schedule this weekend as they host the University of the Ozarks in a three-game series beginning on Friday night at Billy Allgood Field. The teams will play a single game on Friday night beginning at 6 p.m. and finish things on Saturday with a double-header starting at 12 p.m.

5142The Eagles enter the weekend series with a 1-2 record on the year, after spliting a double-header and losing the final game to Millikin University last weekend. Both games of their double-header ended in extra innings, with Ozarks winning on a walk fielder's choice, 4-3, in the bottom of the 11th inning in the first game. In their only series of the season thus far, the Eagles tallied 19 hits and scored nine total runs. Junior first baseman Justin Crider had the best series for the Eagles, going 4-for-11 with two doubles and two runs scored. Their pitching staff as a whole allowed 16 runs on 28 hits, struck out 23 and walked 22 batters in their season opening series.

5201The Wildcats enter their ASC opening series coming off a double-header split last Friday with Loyola (LA), winning the second game 9-1 and falling in a pitchers dual 2-1 to the Wolf Pack. Jacob Buchanan has been excellent in his two starts this season, striking out 15 batters in 9.1 innings of work.  He took the tough luck loss in the first game for Friday's pitchers dual with Loyola. Save for their only loss of the season, the Wildcats offense has been good through the first few games. LC is hitting .339 as a team, with 60 hits already and 66 runs scored. Seth Stevens and Kiefer Moore are leading the team in individual batting with Stevens coming in at a crisp .500 average through six games. Charlie Waddingham has two wins on the young season, and Austin Thompson has been great in 8.0 innings of work, striking out 12 batters and only allowing three hits.


The Wildcast won all three of their games last year at Ozarks and are looking to close out a nine-game season opening home stand with three more over the Eagles this weekend. First pitch on Friday evening is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday's double-header with begin at 12 p.m. for game one and game two at approximately 2 p.m. The Wildcats will make their first road trip of the season next weekend as they travel to Abilen, Texas for a three game set with McMurry University.
