Lady Wildcats Set for Final Tune Up Before Tournament

Thanks to their 85-76 win over the Universtiy of the Ozarks Eagles last Saturday combined with the Eagles loss to the Univeristy of Texas at Tyler Thursday the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats women's basketball team are the number four seed in the American Southwest Conference East Division.  They will take on the West Division champion and host Howard Payne University in the first round of the tournament next Thursday night.

Belhaven | 12-11

4410Belhaven will take on East Texas Baptist University Thursday evening before hosting the Wildcats on senior day Saturday afternoon. Entering Thursday's game, the Blazers are coming off a road victory over LeTourneau after losing back-to-back games to the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas at Tyler. Their top scorer is Sierra Pittman who averages 13.9 points per game on the season, followed by Candler Gregory and Samara Dingiswayo at 11.4 and 10.3 per game. Dingiswayo ranks second on the team in rebounds per game behind Vamikka Smith who pulls in 8.6 per game. As a team the Blazers are shooting 36.7% from the field and rank eighth in scoring at 67.3 points per game.

5201The Wildcats will use their final regular season game as a tune up for the 2017 ASC Conference Tournament that begins next week in Brownwood, Texas at Howard Payne. LC will take on the host Yellow Jackets in the first round with hopes of pulling off the upset and advancing. The young Wildcats are led by Brooke Jones in both scoring and rebounding at 12.3 points and 6.8 boards per game. Freshman Karlee Teddlie ranks second in scoring and fresham Zharian Maxmillion ranks second in rebounding. As a team the Wildcats are scoring 70.2 points per game, fifth best in the conference, and are shooting 36.5% from the field.



With the conference tournament less than a week away, the Wildcats will try to continue the momentum they've picked up over the last few weeks into Saturday against Belhaven and then into the tournament. Belhaven will be good competition for LC as they prepare for a potential run at conference.
