Wildcats Host Wolf Pack Friday

The Louisiana College Wildcats baseball team is off to their best start since the 2003 season. The Wildcats completed a four game series sweep over Rust College last weekend to start 4-0 for the first time in 14 years.  They will try and add two more wins this Friday as they host Loyola University (New Orleans) in a non-conference double-header that begins at 4 p.m. on Friday night at Billy Allgood Field. First pitch before game one will be delivered by Wildcat fan and Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.

3978The Wolf Pack are coming off a double-header sweep at the hands of Spring Hill College on Wednesday night, losing both games by a score of 5-4.  Before the midweek series at Spring Hill, Loyola swept Tougaloo in a three game home series, outscoring the Bulldogs, 33-1. Even on the young season, the Wolf Pack and Wildcats have a common opponent under their belts, both teams handling Rust College in their opening weekends, Loyola escaping with the game three win 4-3 in extra innings. The Wolf Pack are led in hitting by Alexander Lorenzo, who comes into the series in Pineville with a .400 average, with two homeruns and 16 RBI. On the mound 13 different players have pitched for Loyola, with Jason Roussel going the most innings thus far, 10.1, with a 4.35 ERA in two starts allowing a team high nine runs and 16 hits.

5201The Wildcat had a pretty easy go of it in their first four games of the season, winning each game by an average of 12.5 runs per game and outscoring Rust College 56-6 over the four games. The best four game start to a season since the 2003 team went 8-0 to begin their year. The Wildcats offensive explosion wasn't limited to one or two players, the entire team got in on the action with six different guys having at least one mulit-hit game in the serires. Kiefer Moore and Seth Stevens had the best offensive series for LC combining for 17 hits, 15 RBI, 14 runs, five doubles, and two home runs.

Coach Matt Byrnes said, "We told the hitter to have a great approach going up the plate and be aggresive, we wanted to hit something early in the count. We had some great at-bats and with the week we're still working to get better, getting better every single day and looking forward to two tough games against Loyola."

On the mound, 12 pitchers saw action in the first four games with no one going more than 4.1 innings at a time. Jacob Buchanan had an excellent outing going 3.0 innings with one hit and striking out seven of the 10 batters he faced.

The Wildcats will host Loyola (NO) for a double-header on Friday night beginning at 4 p.m. at Billy Allgood Field. It will be the fifth and sixth games of the season opening nine game home stand that will conclude next weekend as the Wildcats open conference play hosting the University of the Ozarks. The teams are scheduled to play a 7-inning and a 9-inning game Friday night with Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser throwing out the first pitch before game one.
