Lady Wildcats Take on Lobos and Yellow Jackets

After nearly two week without playing a game, the Louisiana College women's basketball team returns to action this weekend for a pair of American Southwest Conference games at Rapides Coliseum. LC will take on Sul Ross State University on Thursday evening at 5:30 pm and end their 2017 schedule of home game with a 2 pm game against Howard Payne University on Saturday.  The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 5-2 record on the season and at 1-1 in conference play.

3974The Lobos picked up their first win of the season last week with a 57-54 home victory over LeTourneau, before falling to ETBU two days later 74-48 in their last outing before their date with the Wildcats. On the season the Lobos have struggled offensively, with their highest point total coming in the win over LeTourneau, for a season average of 49.5 points per game. The Lobos' shooting woes have contributed to the lack of team offense, with a conference low .294 field goal percentage and .520 free throw percentage on the year. Junior guard Angalyn Latin leads the team with 11.6 points per game, the only player in double figures in scoring for Sul Ross, she is also second on the team with 5.4 rebounds per game.

2510The Yellowjackets enter the weekend winners of two of their last three games and will take on Belhaven on Thursday night in Jackson, Miss. before stopping off for their matchup with the Wildcats on Saturday. HPU split their first two conference game with a 67-57 loss at UT Dallas and getting a home win over LeTourneau in their last game before this weekend 60-45. They are led by junior guard Valarie Matlock how enter the weekend with a 12.8 point per game average and a team best .341 3-point shooting percentage. Guard Dominique Featherstone and forward Anastasia Willis top the team with a 7.1 and 7.0 rebound per game average this year. The Yellowjackets are averaging 58.1 points per game this year, and have a .318 field goal percentage as a team.

5201The Wildcats last played a meaningful game almost two weeks ago when they survived a 69-68 scare by Hardin-Simmons for their first win in ASC play at at Rapides Coliseum this season. With final exams behind the them the team has had the chance to focus solely on basketball and will look to put together two quality performances to close out the 2017 home schedule this weekend. LC comes in as one of the top offenses in the conference, one of just three teams averaging more than 70 points per game. The Wildcats have scored scored the large majority of their points inside the three point line, shooting .456 on shots inside the arc and leading the conference with a .683 free throw percentage. Senior center Brooke Jones has been a large part of the Lady Wildcats success thus far this year, leading the ASC with an 18.9 point per game average and ranking fourth with 8.6 rebounds per game. Senior guard Kourtney McGhee also sits in the top 10 in scoring in the conference at 13.4 per game and ranks fifth with 3.6 assists per game. 

The final home series of the 2017 portion of the schedule in Rapides Parish Coliseum is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 pm Thursday night as the Wildcats take on Sul Ross.Tickets are $10 for those two years and older and LC students, faculty, and staff will be admitted for free with their campus ID. Louisiana College athletics will be providing a shuttle bus for students that will leave from the parking lot between MPAC and H.O. West, 30 minutes prior to tip-off of the women's game all season. Seating is limited and students are encouraged to sign-up in the student development office to secure their spot on the shuttle. The Wildcats also welcome all Rapides Parish School children and their families with a free admission offer with the purchase of a general admission ticket.
