Box Score

In a non-conference game against a conference opponent that the Louisiana College women's basketball team lost to in mid-December, the Lady Wildcats showed their improvement since that game by picking up the 71-61 win. LC improved to 5-7 overall on the season and remain at 4-3 in ASC play, 2.5 games behind UT Dallas for first place in the East Division.

Concordia started the game with five quick points with a three and a layup to take the 5-0 lead two minutes into the game. The Wildcats scored the next 11 points unanswered to go up 11-5 at the mid way point of the first quarter. Five points from Karlee Teddlie, on a long range shot and a layup, in the final minute of the quarter gave the Wildcats a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Tornado played their best quarter of the game in the second, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 18-12 over the 10 minute period to take a 29-28 lead into halftime. Of the 12 points scored by LC in the quarter, nine were scored by senior Kourtney McGhee on 4-of-7 shooting from the field. Concordia was aided by five LC turnovers in the quarter to give them the lead at the break.

LC regained the lead on their first possession of the second half on a three-point play from Brooke Jones, after she converted the foul shot, giving the Wildcats a 31-29 lead 30 seconds into the third quarter. Concordia tied the game on a pair of free throws on their next possession but LC would take control of the game for the next few minutes with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes. Trailing by nine at the mid way point of the quarter, Concordia answered LC's run with one of their own, scoring the final 10 points of the third and hold the 45-42 lead heading into the fourth.

The Wildcats took the lead early in the final quarter thanks to four made free throws between Rachel Johnson and Rometta Lombard. Concordia stayed within a shot of LC for most of the quarter but thanks to their best free throw shooting game of the season, the Wildcats were able to secure their third straight victory of the season. LC shot 89.3% from the charity stripe in the game and went 19-of-21 in the fourth quarter to pick up the 71-61 win over Concordia.

Brooke Jones finished with a team high 18 points in the win, and three others had 10 or more points for the Wildcats, Kourtney McGhee with 12, RyDeja McQuarn with 11, and Kristen Breaux with 10. LC out rebounded Concordia 29-20 in the second half and converted on six more free throws than the Tornado.

The Wildcats will play their first game in H.O. West Fieldhouse on Thursday night, and their last for the month January, as they host Belhaven in another non-conference matchup. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
