Box Score
The Louisiana College men could not overcome an outstanding shooting night from Concordia on Monday night, especially from long range. The Tornado shot 53.6% from three in the game and and even 50% in the second half in route to a 96-81 win over the Wildcats.
In a tightly contested first half the Wildcats and Tornado went back and forth through the majority of the opening half. The Wildcats took the lead on five different occasions, with three of them coming in the first three minutes of the game and the final two coming in the final four minutes of the half. Â A layup at the 16:42 mark of the first by
Taylan Grogan gave the Wildcats an 8-7 lead on the Tornado, that was taken away three minutes later on a three pointer from Ephriam Price. Â Concordia held the lead for the next nine minutes of action until a pair of free throws from
Travis Schultz and a layup from Grogan on consecutive possession gave LC the lead back at 28-26 with 4:22 remaining.Â
Concordia regained the lead on back-to-back three pointers with less than three minutes to go in the first half. Now down by four LC made a quick 6-0 run to take the lead back thanks to layups from LeBlanc, Davis, and Stokes. The Wildcats run was answered by five points to end the half from the Tornado to take the lead back for good from LC.
The Wildcats worked back within four in the second half on a couple different occasions six minutes into the second half but Concordia's hot shooting kept LC from pulling within a single possession each time. The Tornado went 6-of-12 from 3-point range in the second half and went 15-for-28 for the game as well as shooting 21-of-24 free throws in the game.
Freshman
Taylan Grogan finished with a career best 23 points and six assists in the game, while
Raheem Regis extended his double digit scoring streak to nine consecutive games by picking up 18 points in the game.
Jacquez Coleman was the only other player to score in double digits, his second game in a row to reach that mark, with and even 10 points. In the second half, freshman guard
Palmer Hill went down with an apparent lower leg injury and will miss an undetermined amount of time.
The Wildcats will play their first game in H.O. West this season on Thursday evening in another non-conference matchup with Belhaven. Â Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
