The Louisiana College baseball team were able to finish out a stretch of 5 games in 3 days with a double-header sweep of Rust College on Sunday afternoon.  The Wildcats (7-18 (3-9)) took game one 13-3 and followed that up with a 4-2 win in the second game, highlighted by the pitching performance of Austin Thompson.

In game one the Wildcats were able to bang out 10 hits and capitalize on 5 Rust errors in route to the 13-3 victory.  The Wildcats used a little bit of everything to take the win, agressive baserunning, small ball, and solid hitting.  Tyler Lamers and Cody McNeal paced the Wildcat with 5 of the 10 team hits including a 2-run double by McNeal in the 2nd and a Lamers triple in the 5th.  The Wildcats stole 7 bases in the first game and Sully Martin got even closer to the school record for steals in a season with 5 total on Sunday in the two games.  Tyler Dixon took the win in game one, coming in out of the pen and pitching 3.0 innings of shutout baseball.

The second game of the day was closer on the scoreboard but it was Austin Thompson that controlled the game for the Wildcats. Thompson pitched a complete game for the Wildcats and in the process struck out a school record 15 batters.  LC pitching coach Stuart Morgan was pleased with the performance of his Junior pitcher, "I thought Thompson did what we've been trying to get him to do for the past three years, and that was command the zone. He got ahead early with his fastball, threw some first pitch breaking balls for strikes, and was able to pitch effectively, changing speeds and locations. We hope this win gives him some confidence to help us going forward, because he has it in him and if very capable of begin very good for us."

Back to back doubles in the 3rd inning by Algenys Diaz and Tim Griffith gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.  Rust made things interested scoring 2 runs on passed balls, one in the 4th and another in the 6th, but Logan Phillips gave the Wildcats some insurance with a solo home run to left in the bottom of the 6th.  Wildcat assistant coach Matt Byrnes said, "The main thing with our team is we always have each others back, win or lose, we always have each others back."  That was the case on Sunday as the offense ruled the day in game one and pitching and defense won the day for game two.

The Wildcats will return to Billy Allgood Field next weekend for a three game conference series with McMurry, with a double-header set for Friday (Gm 1 - 4pm, Gm 2 - 6pm) and a single game on Saturday at 12pm.
