Wildcats Pick Up Two Come Back Wins

4/23/2016 2:40:00 AM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Louisiana College baseball team would score runs in their final at bats in both game one and two of the double header at Ozarks to take victories over the Eagles on Friday afternoon.  The teams will wrap up the series and the Wildcat final road game of the year Saturday at 1pm.

In the first game of the double header trailing 1-0 in the third, the Wildcats would score 3 runs on an error, bases loaded walk, and wild pitch to take a 3-1 lead after three innings.  The score remained the same until Ozarks retook the lead in the sixth scoring 3 runs on three hits ans two Wildcat errors. LC would respond in their final at bat in the seventh with a 4 run outburst highlighted by a 3-run home run by Deauton Delgado, giving the Wildcats the lead and eventually the win in game one.

Charlie Waddingham got his second win of the year going 6.2 innings, scattering 8 hits and allowing 4 runs, only 1 of them earned.  Logan Phillips went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI, and Delgado's only hit was the home run in the seventh that secured the victory.

In the night cap both teams had their way at the plate combining for 24 runs on 26 hits, while the defenses combined for 11 errors.  Fortunately for the Wildcats they would have the majority of the hits with 17, the most in a single game this year.  Leading 1-0 after one inning, Ozarks took advantage of 4 walked and 2 errors to score 7 runs.  With the score 9-2 going into the top of the fifth, the Wildcats would get their chance at a big inning.  Logan Phillips and Deauton Delgado hit a double and triple back to back to score 3 quick runs for the Wildcats.  Seven batters would come to the plate before an out would be recorded and LC would tie the game at 9 when things were all said and done.

The teams traded the lead over the next two innings before a scoreless eighth left the game tied at 11 going to the ninth inning.  With the bases loaded in the top of the final inning, the Wildcats would get two runs across on a arrant throw by the third baseman.  Miles Holley Jr would finish out the final frame and pick up his first win of the year in the process.  Six Wildcats had at least two hits in the game and four players had three hits in the 17 hit game.

The series finale is set for 1pm Saturday, as the Wildcat go for their first three game sweep of the year in their final road series of the year.  LC returns home next weekend for the final series of the season as they host ETBU, games are scheduled for a single game Friday at 6pm and a double header Saturday starting at 12pm.  The team will have senior presentations for six Wildcat players on Saturday.
