Wildcats Hold on for Sweep of Ozarks

4/23/2016 5:11:00 PM

Box Score

The Wildcats baseball team got their first three game series sweep of the year with an 8-7 victory over Ozarks Saturday afternoon.  LC will play their final home series of the year next weekend as they host ETBU Friday and Saturday at Billy Allgood Field.

Sully Martin started off the finale with a double and came in to score on a single by Logan Phillips four batters later.  An error at third led to another Wildcat run in the first and LC took a 2-0 lead out of the gate.  After another Marin extra base hit, this time a triple, and an RBI groundout gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead, Ozarks would cut into the lead with back to back RBI singles making the game 3-2 after three innings.

The Wildcats would score 4 runs in the next two innings on a 2-run single by Sully Martin in the fourth and a 2-run home run by Tim Griffith in the sixth.  LC held an 8-4 lead going into the bottom of the ninth but the Eagles would not go down quietly in the inning.  An error and a sacrifice fly would plate 2 runs for the Eagles and an RBI single cut the WIldcat lead to one.  With runners at first and second and only 1-out up by one Miles Holley Jr would bear down and strike out the last two batters to secure the Wildcat victory and the sweep.

Sully Martin had a great day at the plate going 3-5 and just a home run away from the cycle, Cody McNeal and Tim Griffith also added two hits each for the Wildcats.  The Wildcats used five different pitchers in the game and Trey Ducote picked up the win and Miles Holly Jr got the save.

The Wildcats return to Billy Allgood Field next weekend for the final home series against ETBU.  The series is scheduled for a single game on Friday at 6pm and a double header Saturday starting at noon.  The team and coaching staff will recognize six graduating seniors, Tyler Dixon, Brandon Estrada, Tim Griffith, Cody McNeal, Grant Burns, and Tripp Davis on Saturday.
