Louisiana College (9-23, 4-14) baseball will make its final road trip of the year this weekend for a three game series against the University of the Ozarks (13-20, 5-13). The weekend schedule will be a double-header Friday starting at 2pm and a single game Saturday at 1pm.
After winning 4 out of the last 6 games going into last weekend's series against Hardin-Simmons, the Wildcats were swept by the Cowboys. Hardin-Simmons batted .368 in the series with a total of 35 hits over three games compared to the Wildcats 23 but LC wasn't able to get the timely hits they needed to score the runs they needed.
The team batting average in ASC play has been on the rise the past few weeks but it is still at the bottom of the conference leaderboard at .254. In fact, the Wildcats are just .011 percentage points behind their opponent this weekend, Ozarks. The Cats do lead the conference in two other offensive categories, steals and strikeouts.
Sully Martin and Kiefer Moore are #1 and #2 in steals in conference play so look for the Wildcats, when they get on base, to continue to push the issue on the base paths. Logan Phillips continues to lead the team with a .338 average but three other Wildcats have raised their averages over .300 over the last few weeks; Cody McNeal (.321), Kiefer Moore (.314), and Tyler Lamers (.301).
Pitching for the Wildcats has been on the shoulders of the entire staff all season long and will continue to be that this weekend as well. LC has used a total of 18 different pitchers this season and 10 different guys have at least 1 start this year.
Like the Wildcats, Ozarks is a very young team with several freshmen ans sophomores getting regular playing time. Youth has been a factor for both teams all year leading to the 9 combined conference wins this season.
The Wildcats will play their last road series of the weekend and return to Billy Allgood Field next Friday and Saturday for their final series of the season as they host ETBU. The game schedule for that weekend is a single game on Friday at 6pm and a double-header Saturday starting at noon.
On Saturday, prior to their final game at Billy Allgood Field, the Wildcats will honor the 6 graduating players on this year's team Brandon Estrada, Tim Griffith, Tyler Dixon, Cody McNeal, Grant Burns, and Tripp Davis.
