Baseball Goes to Hardin-Simmons

4/15/2016 6:37:00 AM

The LC Baseball team (9-20, 4-11) will play a three game conference series at Hardin-Simmons (18-12, 12-6) this weekend in Abeline, TX.  The series is scheduled for a double-header Friday starting at 4pm and a single game on Saturday at 1pm.

The Wildcats are coming off back to back wins over Texas College on Tuesday of this week and McMurry on Sunday in the finale of that series.  Overall the Wildcats have won 4 out of their last 6 games after a winless March.

Austin Thompson and Charlie Waddingham will be the probable starters for the two games on Friday.  Thompson is coming off back to back solid outings including the record breaking 15 strike out performance against Rust and 7.0 strong innings in the Wildcats win over McMurry.  In his last two outings, both wins for the Wildcats, Thompson has allowed just 4 runs to score on 10 hits and struck out 22 batters.

Waddingham has been solid for the Wildcats all season and picked up his first win of the year on Tuesday after getting the mid week start against Texas College and getting the Steers 1-2-3 in the first inning before the 8 other pitchers in the bullpen finished the game.  He has a 3.53 ERA in 9 appearances this year.

Offensively for the Wildcats Logan Phillips, Tyler Lamers, and Kiefer Moore are all batting over .300 with Phillips leading the team with a .353 average.

Hardin-Simmons in 18 conference games this year is batting .323 as a team and averaging a little over 6 runs per game, while the Wildcats in 15 conference game are batting .253 with almost 5 runs per game.

The Wildcats will spend the next two weekends on the road before ending the regular season against ETBU April 29-30.  With 9 games remaining in the season LC is still very much alive in the playoff hunt.  They currently sit 1 game behind LeTourneau for the 8th spot in the tournament and just 5 games out of the 4 spot.

LC plays at Hardin-Simmons Friday in a double-header and a single game on Saturday, travels to Ozarks next weekend for the last road trip of the year and ends the season at home against rival ETBU the final weekend of April.
