Baseball Finishes Tough Weekend with UT-Tyler

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

In a rare 2-game series against an ASC team, which did not count towards conference standings, Louisiana College was plagued by the big innings on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

In game one on Friday night at Billy Allgood Field there were two cases were the big inning hurt the Wildcats. A 5-run third and a 6-run fifth for the Patriots essentially sealed the deal for them.  The Wildcats were able to get 2 runs on a towering, opposite field home run by Dylan Roy over the right field wall in the bottom of the fourth.  That was Roy's only hit of the night in three at bats, and it accounted for both Wildcats runs in the game.  LC struggled to put things together against Patriots pitcher Cason Adams, who went 6.0 innings, scattering 5 hits, and striking out 6.  Both Austin Taylor and Phillip Vidrine pitched well in relief in the latter stages of the game.  They combined for 4.2, with 3 strikeouts, and no hits allowed.

In game two on Saturday afternoon it was the eighth inning that did the Wildcats damage.  Up until that point however the fans at Billy Allgood Field were treated to a good old-fashioned pitching dual between Charlie Waddingham (0-2) and UTT's Michael Blevins.  The Wildcats took the lead in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded single by Dylan Roy, but that was all they would get as the Patriots would turn an inning ending double play to escape the early Wildcat threat.  LC maintained the 1-0 lead until a 2-run home run by Texas-Tyler put them on top in the top of the sixth inning.  The Wildcats would threaten again in the sixth and seventh but were unable to plate the tying run.  UTT would bat around in the top of the eighth and score 6 runs to extend their 1-run lead to 7.  Luke Johnson did hit a pinch hit 2-run home run to right in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough for the Wildcats.

Louisiana College has a busy week ahead with a mid-week double header on Tuesday night against Texas College and then a weekend series, also at home, against non-conference opponent Rust.

Tuesday first game will start at 4pm at Billy Allgood Field.
