Baseball Ready for First Games Since March 5

3/18/2016 9:03:00 AM

The Wildcat Baseball team (4-10, 2-1) will travel to Jackson, MS to take on Belhaven University (10-4, 1-2) this weekend in a three game series. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 7pm and then a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at 1pm and 3pm.  Fans wanting to track the Wildcats series at Belhaven this weekend can click the link HERE.

With rain postponed all of the Wildcats games from last week against Texas College and Rust College Friday night's game against Belhaven will be the first real game the Wildcats have played since the two game series on March 4th and 5th agaisnt UT-Tyler.  Coach Mike Byrnes talked about what the Wildcats did with the time between games, "We've intersquaded the last two days with game situations, everything is the same, you gotta pitch it, you gotta throw it, you gotta catch it. We had real good competitive intersquads against each other and we're ready to go over there and see what can happen and go from there."

With weather and rain concerns for the Jackson area this weekend the Wildats are going in with a pitch by committe approach for the series, Byrnes said, "We're bringing 10 or 11 guys to throw and just gonna play it by ear and see how it goes."

LC will start Junior righty Charile Waddingham (0-2) for one of the three games.  Waddingham last pitched in the UT-Tyler series where he did scatterd 4 hits over 6.0 innings of work agaisnt a very good Patriots team.  He has also pitched agins the Blazers earlier this year in Pineville, going 7.0 innings giving up 6 hits but only 2 runs in the Wildcats 3-2 loss.

Coach Byrnes talked about that series between the two back mid-February, "We've already played one three game series with them and they came in and swept us, but in two of the three games we had chances to win late and couldnt produce when we had to. We're excited, we're a young ball club and we're gonna go over there and get after it and do whatever we can to try to get a couple."

The Wildcats will return to Billy Allgood Field next week for a three game ASC series against Concordia with Game 1, Thursday at 4pm and a doubleheader on Good Friday with Game 2 at 1pm and Game 3 at 3pm.
