Women Carry Momentum to Washington

12/8/2016 11:12:00 AM

The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats will look to continue the momentum they gained last weekend on two conference road wins over McMurry and Hardin-Simmons. With the two wins in Abeline, the Wildcats are now 2-2 on the season but more importantly 2-0 in conference play.  The Lady Wildcats take the trip to the Pacific Northwest to take part in the K.E. Raney Memorial Classic in Walla Walla, Washington, hosted by Whitman College. They will play the host Whitman on Friday afternoon, and then finish with a game Saturday against Whitworth University.  Friday's game will tip off at 8:00 pm and Satruday's game will begin at 6:00 pm.

Whitman College enters the game as the #25 ranked team in the latest D3hoops.com poll, with a record of 7-0 on the season after their most recent victory over Whitworth on Tuesday. The Blues Chelsi Brewer leads a balanced scoring attack with 13.0 points per game and the team has three players shooting better than 50% from the field this season. Whitman is only allowing opponents to score a hair over 50 points per game this year while averaging more than 65 points themselves.

Whitworth comes into the weekend losers of three in a row after their only win of the season over UC Santa Cruz 67-65 on November 19. The Pirates are led by two players with greater than 10 point per game averages this season, Callie Harwood with 16.6 per game and Grace Douglas at 12.8 per. Harwood also leads the team in rebounds game with 7.0 per game. As a team the Pirates are averaging only 53.6 points per game and shooting 35.5% from the floor this season.

The Lady Wildcats are one of only three unbeaten teams in conference play after the first weekend of games, along with Western division for UT Dallas and Howard Payne from the East. After scoring 45 and 52 points in their first two games of the season, the Lady Wildcats offense found it's stride in Abeline, scoring more than 70 points in both their wins. Junior Brooke Jones and freshman Kristen Breaux are both averaging double figures for the Wildcats this year at 10.8 and 10.5 points per game.  Both players also lead the team in field goal percentage and rebounds per game as well.  With last weekend's 70 plus point out puts, the Wildcats are now averaging 60.8 points per game and shooting 34.9% from the floor.

The Lady Wildcats will take on Whitman College on Friday night at 8pm CST and Whitworth University at 6pm CST on Saturday in Walla Walla, Washington.
