The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats will look to get their first win of the season this weekend as they open American Southwest Conference play in Abeline against McMurry (1-2) on Thursday and Hardin-Simmons (2-2) on Saturday afternoon. LC goes into the weekend's games sitting at 0-2 after losses to Birmingham-Southern and LSU-Shreveport.
McMurry enters their first conference games at 1-1 on the season picking up their first win over Centenary on Sunday, 67-57, in Shreveport. The War Hawks have two players averaging 10.5 points per game on the young season, freshmen Skyler Reyna and Kaymee Howell, Reyna also leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.0. McMurry is averaging 60.0 points for the season shooting 34.9% from the floor and 62.9% from the free throw line.
Hardin-Simmons has a dynamic duo of players that have stood out early for the Cowgirls. Danie Mabry comes into the weekend averaging 11.3 points per game, best on the team, and Kayla Brown is close to a double-double average with 9.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Brown had 11 points and 16 rebounds in the Cowgirls last game against Schreiner on Sunday. Hardin-Simmons socres 61.8 points per game and is shooting 36% from the floor on the season.
The Wildcats are looking for their first win of the season with several young players in the rotation. Two of the Wildcats top three scorers are first year freshman,
Kristen Breaux (8.0 pts/gm) and
Karlee Teddlie (7.5 pts/gm). LC's scoring has been down over the first two games shooting 23.7% against BSC and 34.4% against LSUS for a 48.5 point per game average.
