Box Score
The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats opened their 2016-17 regular season on the road Tuesday night against Birmingham-Southern. The Lady Panthers of BSC used an 11-5 third quarter to take control of the game from the Wildcats in route to a 56-45 victory. LC will take on LSU-Shreveport next Monday night in Shreveport in their next contest.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter, behind a 11-0 run over three minutes towards the end of the opening period. The Panthers pulled back within six by the end of the quarter but the Wildcats still had a slightly comfortable 18-12 lead by the end of the first. A pair of free throws by the Panthers tied the game at 23 mid way through the second quarter, and the team would trade baskets the rest of the period before Karlee Teddlie hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining in the half to give the Wildcats a 29-28 lead at the break.
After playing even with the Panthers in the first half, the Wildcats started off shooting well in the second half but went on a drought at the seven minute mark of the third quarter, LC had a one-point lead at that point. BSC would score the next seven points of the quarter and take a 39-34 lead into the final frame. In the fourth quarter a 3-pointer from Rydeja McQuarn pulled the Lady Wildcats within one but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. The Panthers would convert eight free throws out of ten over the last eight and a half minutes to keep the Wildcats at arms length.
Kourtney McGhee was the only Wildcat to score in double figures with 13 points on 4 of 9 shooting in the game. As a team LC shot only 23% from the field and 13% in the second half. The Lady Wildcats will travel to Shreveport on Monday to take on the LSU-Shreveport Pilots with a 5:30 pm scheduled tip-off.
