Tyler, Texas - Searching for a potential berth in the upcoming NCAA Division III regionals, the Louisiana College softball team went 1-1 on Thursday in the opening two rounds of the 2015 American Southwest Conference Softball Tournament at Suddenlink Field in Tyler, Texas.

The Lady Wildcats got some late inning magic in their first game against LeTourneau on Thursday morning to down the Lady Yellow Jackets 5-4 before falling to #3 East Texas Baptist 5-3 in the second round on Thursday afternoon.

LC senior shortstop Laura Gulotta-Parrish, who had been on fire at the  plate over the previous two weeks, got the Lady Cats on the board in the bottom of the first inning in game one, as she sent her fifth home run of the season over the wall to give the LC a 2-0 lead.

After freshman third baseman Regan Lejeune followed Gulotta-Parrish with a single to centerfield, fellow freshman Mattie Stine drilled a double to right field to drive in Lejeune and put LC ahead 3-0. Stine would come around to score later in the inning on an RBI groundout by Jayde Westbrook to give LC a 4-0 cushion after one inning.

But that would be all that the Lady Cats would get until the seventh inning, as LeTourneau relief pitcher Kaylee Pritchett allowed just two hits between the second and sixth innings to hold the LC bats in check and buy enough time for the Lady Jackets to mount a comeback.

LeTourneau got their first runs of the day when Brianna Williams' hit a groundball that was misplayed by Gulotta-Parrish at shortstop, allowing Rachel Gauspohl to score. First baseman Kelsi Coleman then cut the score to 4-2 one batter later on an RBI double to bring in Williams.

Williams then tied the game up at 4-4 in top of the sixth inning, as she sent a one-out pitch from Darian Thacker over the wall to even the score and put the Lady Cats in a position where they could potentially suffer a devastating first round loss.

But the veteran led LC squad would answer in the bottom half of the seventh inning, as Pritchett loaded the bases with one out for Gulotta-Parrish, and the senior would respond yet again, as she sent a 3-1 pitch to centerfield, which was enough for Emorie Nugent to tag up from third and score the game-winning run in walk-off fashion, as the Lady Cats took their opener by a final score of 5-4.

LC would then face 3rd ranked ETBU just a few hours later in the second round, with the Lady Tigers playing their first game of the tournament after receiving a first round bye.

A big second inning for the ETBU bats was the difference, as the Lady Tigers got four runs on three hits to capitalize on a big inning that put them out front 4-0 early before adding another run in the bottom of the third to go ahead 5-0.

But LC would chip away with a two-run frame in the fifth inning when Westbrook led off the inning with a single and eventually scored when Nugent reached on an error by Lady Tiger pitcher Shelby Parker before senior catcher Courtney Ivey drove in Nugent on an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2.

LC would put together one final rally in the seventh inning, as the Lady Cats got singles from Jordan Mason and Gulotta-Parrish with two outs to bring Lejeune to the plate as the tying run. Lejeune would drive in Mason on an RBI single to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but a groundout to third base by Stine ended the rally and secured the 5-3 win for ETBU.

LC will now face Hardin-Simmons on Friday morning at 10 a.m. in the first elimination game of the tournament.
