Box Score 2 ASC StandingsRichardson, Texas - In a series where every game had a eerily similar feel to it, the Louisiana College baseball team dropped Saturday's doubleheader against the UT-Dallas Comets in Richardson, Texas, falling in both games of the twin bill by a final score of 4-3.
After a disappointing loss on Friday (that also ended in a 4-3 decision in favor of the Comets) the Wildcats trailed 1-0 early in game one, but they quickly answered by tying the game in the second inning on an RBI single by senior outfielder
Jermaine Liggins that drove in designated hitter
Dylan Roy.
The Wildcats would then get two more runs in the top fourth inning when third baseman Will Currier led off the frame with a triple to centerfield before being driven in shortstop
Brandon Estrada on a go-ahead RBI double off the left field wall.
Liggins would strike again one batter later as he drilled an RBI triple to the wall in center to score Estrada to put the Wildcats ahead 3-1.
With starting pitcher
Bo Ockman cruising, the Wildcats took that 3-1 lead into the seventh and final inning, but things would not go LC's way as UTD shortstop Jimmy Norris cracked a walk-off three-run home run off of reliever
Ron Anders over the left field wall to give the Comets the win.
Game two would almost play out exactly the same, as UTD once again took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and the Cats would once again tie the game in the top of the second, as Liggins struck again with a no doubt solo home run to left, his third of the season.
If the similarities were not enough, the Wildcats would yet again go up 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, this time on an RBI double by Liggins and an RBI single by senior second baseman
Cary Myers to give the Wildcats a two run cushion.
Some outstanding work by the LC bullpen trio of Anders,
Tripp Davis, and
Austin Thompson got LC to the ninth inning with a 3-1 advantage, but it would once again prove to not be enough, as the Comets would explode for three runs in the final frame to take a 4-3 win.
The final blow came off the bat of UTD right fielder Pierce Fly, who ripped a bases loaded two RBI double to left field to complete the comeback win and the sweep for the Comets.
Liggins led LC offensively on the day, as he went 5-for-7 with a double, triple, home run, two singles, four RBI, and two runs scored in the doubleheader.
The Wildcats led all three game of the series 3-1 going into the bottom of the fifth and suffered 4-3 losses in all three games of the series, as they now sit at 11-21 overall with a 7-17 mark in conference play.
The Wildcats will play non-conference opponent Loyola University on Tuesday before a critical home series beginning on Friday against Hardin-Simmons, which could decide the final few spots in the ASC Tournament field.
