The Lady Cats dropped a tough 2-1 decision in game one to the Lady Tigers despite getting one of the better outings of the season from sophomore left-hander
Taylor Leger.
Leger worked six innings, gave up just three hits and worked around six walks to give up just two runs, neither of which were earned.
LC would actually grab the first lead of game one, as
Abby Maillet's RBI single to centerfield in the top of the fourth inning drove in third baseman
Laura Gulotta-Parrish to put the Lady Cats ahead 1-0.
But the Lady Tigers would respond immediately in the bottom of the fourth, as they took advantage of two LC errors to go ahead 2-1 in their half of the inning and eventually hold off the Lady Cats the rest of the way to pick up the win.
The scoring started when Mallory Westbrook came around the score on a fielding error by LC second baseman
Heather Scully to tie the game at 1-1. The Lady Tigers would then take the lead when pinch hitter Jayme Perez hit a ground ball to the left side that was mishandled by LC third baseman Regan Lejeune that allowed Maranda Westbrook to score the go-ahead run.
That was all that ETBU starting pitcher Kelly Jo McClendon would need, as the junior hurler shut down the LC bats the rest of the way to finish with seven innings pitched, four hits, no walks, and only one run allowed.
LC would be in position to take game two until a five run outburst by the Lady Tigers in their final two trips to the plate in the fifth and sixth innings put the game out of reach and secured the series sweep by third ranked ETBU.
The Lady Tigers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two RBI single by first baseman Lacey Lindsey before the Lady Cats answered back in the top of the fifth on an RBI sac fly to left field by Scully that brought in pinch runner
Jade Johnson to pull LC within one run at 2-1.
But that would be as close as LC would be able to get to the Lady Tigers, as they scored one run in the bottom of the fifth and four runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a three-run home run from Lindsey, to pull away and take the 7-1 win in the series finale.
The Lady Cats fall to 23-8 on the season and 18-5 in the ASC after suffering the sweep. They sit third in the ASC standings behind ETBU (25-2, 21-2) and Texas-Tyler (31-1, 21-1).
LC will take on Millsaps and Emory University on Saturday in Jackson, Miss. before returning home for an ASC showdown against Mary Hardin-Baylor beginning on Sunday in Pineville.
