The Cats looked as if they were on their way to statement win in game one, as they led 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning after senior catcher
Garrett Parsons ripped an RBI single in the third inning to give LC the lead.
But just as LC did in Friday's first game, the Gents were able to storm back for a come-from-behind win, as they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to grab a 5-1 lead and snatch the victory away from the Wildcats.
Freshman starter
Trey Ducote took the loss in game one, despite giving up just three hits and no runs through his first four innings of work before the Gents were able to get hot in the fifth inning.
Parsons led LC at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The LC bench was the story of game two, as several lineup changes made before the start of the game proved to be the difference in the Cats' 5-3 win.
First baseman
Tim Griffith, second baseman
Will Cox, and left fielder
Kade Van Norman, all making their first start of the four –game series between the two teams, combined for four of the Wildcats seven hits in the second game, with Griffith leading the way for the LC offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Griffith put the Wildcats on the board, as the sophomore hit a two-out, two RBI single up the middle that scored Parsons and third baseman
Mark Riendeau to put LC out front 3-1. Right fielder
Jermaine Liggins would later come around to score in the inning when a failed pickoff attempt allowed the senior to cross the plate and give the Cats a 3-1 cushion.
LC added two more runs in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout by Riendeau that brought in Cox and an RBI single from Parsons that drove in Van Norman.
With the LC bats clicking, the Wildcats got some outstanding relief work from junior right-hander
Tripp Davis and senior lefty
Ron Anders, who combined to throw the final seven innings of the contest and gave up just four hits and two runs total.
Davis picked up the win, his second of the season, by going 3 2/3 innings, and allowing just two hits and one earned run.
Anders collected his third save of the season by working the final 3 1/3 innings, as he also gave up just two hits while not allowing an earned run. It was Anders second save of the season in which he worked three or more innings.
The 5-3 win was the Wildcats' first road win of the season and also the 299
th career win for head coach
Mike Byrnes.Â
LC (11-18 overall, 7-14 in ASC) will look to get career win #300 for Byrnes as well as improve their ASC Tournament chances next weekend when they travel to UT-Dallas to take on the Comets in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.Â
