The Louisiana College baseball team, getting a week off from American Southwest Conference play, split their intrastate doubleheader against Centenary College of Shreveport on Friday at Billy Allgood Field in Pineville, taking game one 8-7 in comeback fashion before dropping game two 11-3.

The Wildcats got out on top first in game one, as they took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI sac fly by Garrett Parsons that scored Sully Martin.

But that lead was short lived, as the Gents exploded for five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning to go up 5-1. Centenary would add another run in the fourth inning on a Michael Schimpf RBI single to left centerfield to go up 6-1.

With LC only collecting two hits in the first four innings against Centenary starting pitcher Holden Novak, that lead appeared to be safe for the Gents.

However, just as the Wildcats were able to come back in game three against the Ozarks a week, LC would open things up in the bottom of the fifth for their second comeback win in as many games.

Senior first baseman Mark Riendeau started the scoring with an RBI sac fly to right field that scored pinch runner Will Juarez, who came on to run for freshman pinch hitter Hunter Babineaux after Babineaux started the rally with a one out single to left field, which was his first career hit in a Wildcat uniform.

Parsons would then follow Riendeau with a two RBI single to left center that scored Martin and left fielder Dylan Keller to cut the lead to two at 6-4. Senior right fielder Jermaine Liggins followed Parsons with a double deep to left center to put LC within one at 6-5.

The Wildcats would then take the lead for good when senior third baseman Will Currier ripped an two RBI triple to right field that brought around Liggins and designated hitter Dylan Roy to put LC ahead 7-6.

The Cats would get their final run in the bottom of the sixth when shortstop Brandon Estrada led off the inning with a double deep to right center field and was eventually brought around on an RBI single by Riendeau to give LC the final insurance run they needed to secure the 8-7 win.

LC sophomore right-hander Evan Mativi was dominant in relief of starter Bo Ockman, as Mativi worked the final three innings of the game, giving up just one hit and one run to earn his first win of the season.

Martin (2-for-4, two stolen bases) and Roy (2-for-3) ed LC with two hits a piece in game one while Parsons was 1-for-3 with a team-leading three RBI.

Game two was highlighted by an eight-run fifth inning by the Gents that all but put the game out of reach for the Wildcats, as Centenary took the second game of the twinbill 11-3 by collecting 15 hits in the contest.

The Wildcats now sit at 10-17 on the season with a 7-14 mark in ASC play. LC and Centenary will conclude their home-and-home doubleheader series on Saturday in Shreveport, as the two teams will play each other in another doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
