Pineville, La. - The Louisiana College baseball team put themselves right back in the thick of the American Southwest Conference standings with a 5-1 win over Howard Payne at Billy Allgood Field on Sunday that completed a three game sweep of the Yellow Jackets.

After starting 1-5 in conference play, the sweep gives the Wildcats the exact momentum they need going into the heart of their ASC schedule.

LC got ahead 2-0 early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning after freshman left fielder Dylan Keller drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on a Mark Riendeau double off the wall in left center, and eventually scored on a Garrett Parsons RBI single through the left side.

The Cats scored their second run of the inning one batter later when Riendeau was brought home on an RBI groundout by right fielder Jermaine Liggins to make
it 2-0.

LC then scored another run in the bottom of the second when sophomore first baseman Tim Griffith singled home sophomore designated hitter Dylan Roy to put the Wildcats out front 3-0.

LC would get back-to-back single run frames in the fifth and sixth innings on a pair of RBI doubles from Jermaine Liggins and Sully Martin to give them a commanding 5-0 lead, which was more than enough for a determined LC pitching staff.

Freshman right-hander Trey Ducote was outstanding, as he tossed six scoreless innings and struck out eight to notch his first career win as a Wildcat.

Ducote gave way to senior left-hander Ron Anders in the seventh, as Anders threw the final three innings to notch his second save in as many days.

The Wildcats got two hits a piece from Griffith, Parsons, and Cary Myers while Sully Martin led LC offensively by going 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and two stolen bases.

Louisiana College, now 6-7 overall and 4-5 in ASC play, will travel to Tyler, Texas next week to take on Texas-Tyler (10-5, 7-2), arguably the ASC's hottest team as of late, in a critical conference road series that will feature a rematch of the 2013 ASC Championship Game.
