Box Score 4 The Louisiana College softball team finished their two-day trip to San Antonio, Texas with a 3-1 record, as they swept a doubleheader against St. Olaf College on Monday and came back on Tuesday to split a doubleheader with Trinity University.
LC won the first game of their doubleheader against Trinity on Tuesday by a 6-4 final in 10 innings before dropping a 6-0 decision in the nightcap in game two.
The Lady Cats jumped out to an early 1-0 in their first game against Trinity as freshman
Mattie Stine ripped an RBI single to centerfield to score
Jayde Westbrook and give LC the one run lead in the top of the second inning.
Trinity would answer in the third inning, however, as left fielder Emily Fleishman pulled off a rare steal of home to tie the game at 1-1.
The Lady Cats would give themselves a chance to put the game away in the top of the sixth inning when third baseman Regan Lejeune singled to drive in
Laura Gulotta-Parrish and give LC a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh inning. But despite having their freshman ace
Savannah Settle in the circle, Trinity scrapped their way to a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh as back-to-back doubles by Mackenzie Hill and Lauren Mercado tied the game and sent it to extra innings.
LC would take yet another lead in the top of the eighth, as a solo home run by senior catcher
Courtney Ivey put the Lady Cats ahead 3-2, but once again the home team was able to respond, as an RBI single by Katie Castillon drove in Caitlynn Dykes to tie the game once again at 3-3.
But the Lady Cats would finally prevail in the top of the 10
th, as they brought home three runs on RBIs from
Emorie Nugent,
Jordan Mason, and Ivey to take the 6-3 lead and hold on in the bottom of the 10
th to secure the 6-4 win in game one, as Settle picked up her 10
th win of the season to move to 10-1 overall.
Game two was dominated by Trinity starting pitcher Kaci Wellik, as she earned her first win of the season by throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout to silence the LC bats and lead her team to a 6-0 win.
The Lady Wildcats move to 17-5 overall with the three wins in San Antonio. They will continue their seven game road swing after just one day off, as they are scheduled to take on Howard Payne in a three-game ASC series beginning on Thursday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.Â
