In a rare Thursday night conference game at Billy Allgood Field in Pineville, the Louisiana College Wildcats, despite one of their best nights at the plate all season, dropped a 14-9 decision to the Sul Ross State Lobos.

The Wildcats held a 7-6 lead going into the top of the seventh inning, but an eight run seventh by the Lobos was enough to put them over the top and take the win.

Senior right fielder Jermaine Liggins started the scoring for LC in the bottom of the first inning when he launched a titantic grand slam over the scoreboard in left field to give the Wildcats a 4-0 advantage early.

After Sul Ross put together back-to-back one run frames in the fourth and fifth innings, the Wildcats would again put up another crooked number as they scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles from Liggins and Dylan Roy to go up 6-2.

That is when the Lobos exploded for 12 runs over the next two innings to take a 14-7 lead in the blink of an eye and were able to hold that lead for the eventual 14-9 win. The big blow came off the bat of Lobo first baseman Eli Gallego, who hammered a grand slam over the right centerfield wall with two outs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.

Liggins led LC at the plate by going 3-for-5 with 5 RBI including a grand slam and a triple. Senior third baseman Mark Riendeau also added three hits for LC on the night, who had 15 as a team.

The Lobos were lead by second baseman Shane Sawyer (2-for-5, two home runs), first baseman Eli Gallego (2-for-4, home run, 4 RBI), and shortstop Josh Vasquez (4-for-6, 3 RBI).

The two teams will square off in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at Billy Allgood Field to conclude the series.
