Belton, TX - The Louisiana College softball team, led by freshman pitcher
Savannah Settle's no-hitter in game one, swept Friday's doubleheader against Sul Ross State in Belton, Texas by taking game one 8-0 before winning game two 4-0 to complete the twinbill sweep.
Settle, whose no-hitter was the 19
th in school history and LC's first since 2010, picked up her sixth win of the season by tossing all five innings, giving up no hits, no walks, struck out eight, and faced just one batter over the minimum.
The Lady Cats got more than enough run support for Settle in the bottom of the second inning with six runs on four hits, highlighted by a two-run single from
Emorie Nugent, a two-run double from
Laura Gulotta-Parrish, and a two-run home run from senior catcher
Courtney Ivey to give LC the 6-0 lead.
LC got their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when third baseman Regan Lejeune ripped a two-run double that scored Ivey and pinch runner
Jade Johnson to end the game via run rule in five innings and secure the no-hitter for Settle.
Sul Ross' lone base runner of the game came when Dayna Whitmore reached on an error, breaking up the freshman right-hander's bid for a perfect game.
Working behind another outstanding pitching performance in game two, this one from sophomore left-hander
Taylor Leger, the Lady Cats jumped on Sul Ross early and held on to the lead the rest of the way out to take the 4-0 win and complete the sweep.
Leger tossed a complete game two-hit shutout to pick up her second win of the season and keep LC's perfect ASC record in tact.
LC scored all four of their runs in game two in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI sac fly by Ivey, a two-run single from
Abby Maillet, and an RBI groundout from Lejeune to give the Lady Cats all the cushion they would need.
The pair of wins brings LC's record to 11-1 overall and a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play, as the Lady Cats have now won 11 straight after dropping their season opener to Texas Lutheran.
The two teams will face off on Saturday in the series finale in a single game beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Belton, Texas.Â
