Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season ReportsFinal ASC StandingsThe Louisiana College men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker on the road Saturday afternoon, as a last-second basket gave Texas-Tyler a 77-76 win over the Wildcats, spoiling LC's chances of a regular season ASC championship.
Â
The Wildcats, who were facing a determined Patriots squad defending their home court on senior day, took a slight 40-39 lead into the half despite UT-Tyler shooting 55.2% from the field in the first 20 minutes.
Â
LC came out on fire in the second half, however, as they went on an 11-1 run from the 15:22 mark to the 11:58 mark of the second half to take their biggest lead of the game when a layup from
Trey Ray put them ahead 60-49.
Â
The Patriots would fight back to erase that lead over the next eight minutes, and a tip in from Anthony Gonzales at the 3:20 mark gave the Patriots the lead at 69-68.
Â
Three more lead changes and two ties would take place over the next three minutes, with
Kevin Lewis giving LC a two-point lead with 43 ticks left to give the Wildcats a 76-74 lead.
Â
The Patriots would then miss a go-ahead three-pointer with 17 seconds left, but a missed free throw from LC point guard
Dylan Brewer gave them one more opportunity.
Â
That second chance at the win turned out much different, as Chris Rios drained a game-winning three-pointer with nine seconds left to give the Patriots the win.
Â
Rios led the Patriots with 25 points, six rebounds, and three assists while
Anthony Gaines, Jr. paced LC with 25 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.
Â
Raheem Regis (16 points, eight rebounds) and
Kevin Lewis (15 points, four assists) also reached double figures for LC.
Â
The Wildcats finish the season 14-9 overall and 14-6 in ASC play, which puts them in a tie for third place in the final standings with Mary Hardin-Baylor and Howard Payne.
Â
Due to strength of team-record, the Wildcats will be the #3 seed in the ASC Tournament next week in Marshall, Texas. They will take on Concordia in the first round on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in the opening game of the tournament.
