Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsA four run fourth inning was too much for the Louisiana College baseball team to overcome on Saturday, as they fell 7-1 in the series deciding third game against the LeTourneau Yellow Jackets at Billy Allgood Field in Pineville.
Â
The Wildcats got out of an early bases loaded jam in the first inning, as LC starting pitcher
Brand Bignar got Ryan Bertram to ground out to
James Santiago at shortstop to keep the game scoreless.
Â
But the Wildcat bats could not get on the board early, as they managed just two hits in the first three innings, which allowed the Jackets to start their fourth inning rally.
Â
After the first three batters of the inning reached base for LeTourneau, the Jackets drew a bases loaded walk, a two-run single, and another RBI single to give them a 4-0 advantage in the top of the fourth.
Â
The Wildcats would have their first chance to score in the bottom half of the fourth inning when
Jermaine Liggins hit what appeared to be an RBI double to the right centerfield gap, but an outstanding play by LeTourneau right fielder Cade Pritchett ended the inning, as
Garrett Parsons was gunned down at the plate attempting to score.
Â
The Jackets would score single runs in the final three innings while LC got their only run of the day on an RBI single from Liggins that drove in freshman centerfielder
Sully Martin.
Â
Bignar took the loss for the Wildcats, going three innings and giving up three earned runs.
Â
The Wildcats (3-4 overall, 1-2 in ASC play) will travel to Austin, Texas next weekend to take on Concordia University in a three-game conference series beginning Friday at 4:00 p.m. Â
