Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsUpdated ASC StandingsThe Louisiana College men's basketball team extended their winning streak to three games and wrapped up their first-ever undefeated season at home in the Division III era with a convincing 82-68 win over Sul Ross on Saturday afternoon in the H.O. West Fieldhouse despite not having the services of their all-conference point guard
Kevin Cottonham.
Cottonham, who miss his first game of the season against the Lobos with a leg injury, was replaced by sophomore
Dylan Brewer, who performed admirably in Cottonham's absence and helped lead a nice offensive night for the Wildcats.
Brewer finished the day with five points, five rebounds, and seven assists, but it was another player who came off LC's bench to give the Wildcats the lift they needed to take the win.
Dillon Mandeville, LC's sophomore sharp-shooter from the perimeter, came in off the bench less than three minutes into the game and immediately drilled three three-pointers, the last of which gave the Wildcats a 20-8 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half.
Mandeville would hit yet again from behind the arc before the half was over to help the Cats take a 38-26 lead into the locker room.
While the Lobos would threaten early and cut the lead to eight at the 15:51 mark when Rocky Feliciano's layup made the score 45-37 in favor of the Cats, LC would just not allow Sul Ross to put anything together, as they dominated the glass all day and shut down the Lobos second chance opportunities.
This, combined with a dominant performance from the LC bench, was the ultimate difference in the game.
The Wildcats would score 41 points off the bench of the day, led by Mandeville's 22 and
Raheem Regis' 13.
Juniors
Kevin Lewis (15 points, five rebounds),
Anthony Gaines, Jr. (11 points, 12 rebounds, four assists), and sophomore
Steve Evans (10 points, 12 rebounds) also reached double figures for LC.
The win moves the Wildcats to 13-8 overall with a 13-5 mark in conference play heading into the final week of the regular season.
With East Texas Baptist (19-4, 14-4) downing UT-Dallas on Saturday and extending their winning streak to 10 games, the Wildcats still remain in a three-way deadlock for third place in the conference standings with Hardin-Simmons (17-6, 13-5) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (16-7, 13-5).
LC will travel to Clarksville, Arkansas on Thursday to take on Ozarks (8-16, 4-15) at 7:30 p.m. before finishing out the regular season in Tyler, Texas against UT-Tyler (3-21, 2-17) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.Â
