Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsUpdated ASC StandingsPlaying their first game at home as well as the first game in the newly renovated H.O. West Fieldhouse, the Louisiana College women's basketball team delighted the home crowd with a convincing 85-56 win on Saturday afternoon in Pineville.
It was a dominant win for the Lady Cats, as LC lead for over 39 of the 40 minutes of regulation.
LeTourneau was able to keep things close early, as they trailed just 12-9 at the 16:06 mark of the first half.
But the Lady Wildcats would explode from that point on, going on a 30-11 run over the next 12 minutes to take a 42-20 lead with four minutes remaining until the half. LC would close out the half strong from there, heading into the locker room with a 52-24 advantage.
Turnovers were the key difference in the first 20 minutes, as the Lady Cats outscored LeTourneau 19-4 in the points off turnovers category.
The second half would start out slow for LC, as they missed on their first 14 attempts from the field before a
Brooke Jones layup gave the Lady Cats a 58-34 advantage at the 13:25 mark.
Jones' layup would prove to be the turning point for LC, as they made 10 of their last 20 shots from the field to pull away from the Lady Yellow Jackets and claim the 85-56 win.
Senior
LaToya Evans, by far LC's most improved player from a season ago, led the Lady Cats in scoring with 13 points on 4-6 shooting to go along with five rebounds. It was her third double digit scoring game in LC's last four games.
Seniors
Kaci Willis (10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals) and
Neka Jones (12 points, five assists) also reached double digits in scoring while
Danisha Allison pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds.
With Texas-Tyler and Texas-Dallas both winning on Saturday, the Lady Cats (11-4 overall, 8-4 in ASC play) remain third in the ASC standings with their win over LeTourneau. They will take on Concordia University (7-9, 6-6) in a conference matchup on Thursday at home in the H.O. West Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m.Â
