Brownwood, TX - A rough start doomed the Louisiana College on Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Wildcats fell to the Howard Payne Lady Jackets 82-66 in Brownwood, Texas.
 
The Lady Cats missed on their first 13 shot attempts from the field, as HPU jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first five minutes of action.
 
That lead stretched all the way out to a commanding 22-4 advantage in favor of the Lady Jackets by the 10:47 mark of the first half.
 
LC was able to chip away the rest of the first half, as they clamped down on defense and closed out the first half on a 24-10 run to go into the half down by just four at 32-28.
 
With the momentum finally in their favor, the Lady Cats took their first lead of the day when Danisha Allison nailed two free throws at the 15:31 mark of the second half to put LC ahead 37-36.
 
That was the final time the Lady Cats would hold the lead the rest of the way out, however, as HPU immediately went on a 20-3 run over the next seven minutes to take a 57-39 lead, taking advantage of another LC scoring drought.
 
HPU's largest lead came when they led 73-49 at the 2:54 mark of the second half.
 
LC, who shot just 18.4% (7-38) from the field, was unable to overcome their early shooting woes against a strong Lady Jacket team, who shot 46.7% (28-60) from the field on the day.
 
Neka Jones (18 points), Danisha Allison (13 points, 11 rebounds), and LaToya Evans (13 points) led the Lady Cats in scoring on the afternoon while HPU's Danyel Bradley (28 points, 10 rebounds) and Sarah Van Remmen (20 points, 19 rebounds) led the Lady Jackets.
 
The Lady Wildcats (7-3, 4-3 in ASC play) are scheduled to play their first game in newly renovated H.O. West Fieldhouse on Tuesday against rival East Texas Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
