Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsASC Tournament BracketTen combined runs between the third, fourth, and fifth innings by LeTourneau was the difference, as the Yellow Jackets took a 14-4 win over the Louisiana College Wildcats in both team's opening games of the 2014 American Southwest Conference Tournament on Wednesday night in Austin, TX.
After both teams score runs in the second inning to tie the score 1-1, the Yellow Jackets had their first big inning in the bottom of the third, as they brought home three runs on three hits and one Wildcat error. The big blow of the inning was LeTourneau first baseman Garrett Methvin's big one out, two RBI double to left field.
The Wildcat bats would come alive in the top of the fourth as they immediately answered with three runs of their own to tie the game 4-4.
Freshman right fielder
Bradley Robinson started the scoring with a two run double to left center that scored
Nic Cole and Chaston Lacaze.
Mark Riendeau would ground into a double play two batters later to to score Robinson and tie the game at four.
That would be all the momentum LC could muster the rest of the contest, however, as LeTourneau would end up with 14 runs on 13 hits, which was plenty for Yellow Jacket right hander Curt Copeland, who scattered eight hits and pitched around five walks to give up just two earned runs in seven innings of work to earn the win.
LC junior right hander
Brand Bignar took the loss to fall to 4-3 after giving up eight hits and five earned runs in four innings.
The Wildcats will face the Sul Ross Lobos on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in an elimination game. LC senior ace pitcher
Madison Lachney is expected to get the start for
Mike Byrnes' club, as they face a win-or-go-home scenario.
