Box Score 2 Game One Box ScoreGame Two Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsIn one of the most surprising days in the recent history of Louisiana College base, the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys pounded out 38 hits and scored a total of 36 runs in two games off the Wildcats' recently hot pitching staff, as they swept the Wildcats in Friday's doubleheader.
The Cowboys pounded out 24 hits and scored 11 runs off of LC senior ace pitcher
Madison Lachney in the first three innings of game one, as they cruised to a shocking 24-7 win in the series opener.
It was the first time all season that Lachney failed to go the distance, as his streak of nine consecutive complete games came to an end, as he finished with three innings pitched and gave up eight earned runs.
The Cowboys scored in every inning besides the second, putting up four runs in the first, seven runs in the third and sixth, and three runs in the fourth and fifth.
HSU centerfielder Jason Vause, second baseman Marcus Uechi, and catcher Zack Patino combined for 12 hits, nine runs, and 11 RBI to lead the Cowboys, who collected seven extra base hits in the game.
LC first baseman
Garrett Parsons and left fielder
Kade Van Norman both collected two hits a piece for the Wildcats.
With all of the momentum in their favor, the Cowboys continued their offensive attack in game two, scoring six runs in the first two innings off of LC starter
Brand Bignar, who entered the game as the ASC's hottest pitcher of the past month, to take a 12-5 win and complete the doubleheader sweep.
Seven of HSU's nine starters collected exactly two hits, as the Cowboys tallied 14 total hits, six of which were for extra bases.
Senior catcher
Kyle Feazell was a bright spot offensively for LC, as the veteran leader went 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a double, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Bignar took the loss, his first of the season, after giving up eight hits, seven earned runs, and three hit batters in 3.1 innings of work.
The doubleheader sweep by HSU dropped LC's season record to 14-21 overall with a 13-16 mark in ASC play. With the landscape of the ASC Tournament constantly revolving by the day, the Wildcats find themselves in a must-win situation on Saturday in order to prevent a tie in the standings with Hardin-Simmons (16-20 overall, 12-17 in ASC).
The two teams will face each other in the series finale on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Abilene, TX.
