Box Score Box ScoreThe UT-Dallas Comets, riding a wave of momentum after winning seven of their last ten games, downed the Louisiana College Wildcats 12-1 in Friday night's ASC series opener.
After both teams went scoreless through the first four innings, the Comets would begin to pull away in the top of the fifth, as their patient offensive approach began to pay off in a big way.
UT-Dallas first baseman Brandon Clounch led off the top of the fifth by striking out looking against LC starter
Brennan Russell. However, four walks drawn by the Comet hitters in the inning resulted in a two run frame that broke the scoreless tie.
The Comets would then get two more runs in the sixth inning on four hits and five runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run to left center field by Clounch.
LC would get their only run of the game on a
Kyle Feazell RBI sacrifice fly to deep right field in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored
Tyler Wallace, who who drew a pinch hit walk to lead off the inning.
The Wildcats racked up 10 hits in the loss, with designated hitter
Matt Scott and first baseman
Garrett Parsons both collecting two a piece.
Russell took the loss after giving up two earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
The Wildcats fall to 12-19 overall with an 11-14 mark in ASC play with the loss. The two teams will square off again in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday.
