Game One Box Score
The Lady Choctaws put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning and five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning while the Lady Cats had four costly errors as Mississippi College took game one 11-3 in six innings via eight-run rule.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher
Abby Maillet took the loss after struggling with her control in the first inning, as she walked three and gave up four earned runs before being relieved by
Nancy Bunting with two outs in the first inning.
Emorie Nugent did enjoy a career highlight in game one, however, as she sent a 5
th inning pitch over the left center field wall for her first career home run.
The Lady Choctaws out hit the Lady Wildcats 12-to-6 and drew six walks in the win.
Game Two Box Score
Game two saw the Lady Wildcats' offense return to early season form, as LC racked up 16 hits, including a game-winning RBI single by senior second baseman
Stephanie Jaeger in the top of the seventh inning, on their way to a 9-8 win.
LC appeared to be running with the game early on, as they jumped out ahead 5-1 going into the bottom of the second inning.
Stephanie Jaeger ripped an RBI double to center field to start the scoring in the first, then followed that with a two RBI single to centerfield in the top of the second inning.
Sandra Ouchley then followed Jaeger with another two RBI single of her own to give LC the 5-1 advantage.
But the Lady Choctaws would answer with a huge seven run frame in the bottom of the second inning on four hits and two walks to put them out in front 8-5. The inning was highlighted by a two out grand slam by catcher Tori Bankston off of LC starter
Taylor Leger.
But LC would show the fight that made them one of the nation's hottest teams early on over the remainder of the game, as they scored two runs in the fifth inning on a
Laura Gulotta-Parrish two-run home run and two more in the seventh inning to take the win.
Sophomore relief pitcher
Nancy Bunting was outstanding in relief, tossing 5 1/3 innings in relief and giving up just three hits to earn the win.
The Lady Wildcats moved to 17-5 overall and 17-4 in ASC play with the split. They will take on Howard Payne next Friday at home in a three-game series slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday.
