Senior RHP Madison Lachney tossed his second consecutive complete game in game one of the doubleheader

Wildcats drop doubleheader to Concordia

3/1/2014 10:43:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Louisiana College baseball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday to ASC power Concordia, as the Tornadoes took game one 5-1 before closing out the series finale with a 6-1 win over the Wildcats to complete the three game sweep.

Game One Box Score

The Tornadoes took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off of Wildcat ace Madison Lachney and never looked back, as those two runs would prove to be all that Concordia starting pitcher Cameron Cox would need to hold of the Wildcat bats the rest of the way.

Concordia took the 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a Garret Benyo RBI groundout back to Garrett Parsons at first and a two-out single to centerfield by third baseman Kyle Rodriguez.

Concordia would score two more runs in the top of the third inning when Benyo hit a fly ball to centerfield that would have been the third out, but the ball fell out of the glove of Wildcat centerfielder Jermaine Liggins and brought home shortstop Brandon Hollier. Rodriguez then hit an RBI double down the right field line to put Concordia ahead 4-0.

Concordia would score again in the fifth inning before LC scored their first runs of the afternoon in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Jermaine Liggins RBI double to centerfield that scored Parsons from first base.

Lachney took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season after tossing a complete game while giving up seven hits, two earned runs, and striking out four.

Game Two Box Score

The Wildcats had their opportunities in game two to salvage game three, but were unable to hold on as Concordia gave up just four hits and took the series sweep with a 6-1 win.

The Tornadoes once again were able to get out in front first as an Estevan Hernandez groundout off of LC starter Shea Ourso scored Cole Calder to give Concordia a 1-0 lead.

LC would have a chance to break the game open in the bottom of the third when a Kade Van Norman leadoff single, a Matt Scott walk, and a Mark Riendeau hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out. Senior catcher Kyle Feazell would drive in Van Norman on a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game 1-1 but that is all the Wildcats would get the rest of the way.

Concordia would go on to add insurance runs in the fourth and eighth inning before adding three runs in the top of the ninth inning to put the game away and secure the sweep.

Kiel Harmon picked up the win for the Torandoes with Corey Holmes getting the save while Shea Ourso took the loss in his first career start for the Wildcats.

LC fell to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in ASC play with the sweep. They will play LSU-Alexandria on Tuesday in a game schedule for 6:00 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
