PINEVILLE, LA - A seven run fourth inning by Concordia was too much for the Louisiana College Wildcats to overcome, as they fell to the Tornadoes by a final score of 12-7 in the weekend series opener on Friday night at Wildcat Field.

After a Jermaine Liggins RBI triple and a Mark Riendeau RBI groundout put the Wildcats ahead 3-0 after three innings, LC looked to be in complete control with their Friday night starter Miles Holley tossing three shutout innings to start to start the game.

But a seven run, four hit top of the fourth for Concordia that saw five Tornado batters reach by walk, hit by pitch or error put them on top for the first time all game 7-3.

The Wildcats would fight back with a pair of two-run frames in their half of the fourth and seventh, but shaky seventh inning defensively for LC where Concordia would score all three of their runs unearned was the difference as the Wildcats were never able to hold off the Tornadoes long enough to swing their way back into the game.

LC was able to pound out 10 hits on the night, led by senior designated hitter Matt Scott's 3-for-4 showing at the plate, but surrendered five walks, two hit by pitches, and five errors. That, combined with Concordia's 10 hits on the night were enough to give them the opening night win.

Holley took the loss for LC to fall to 0-2 on the young season, going 3.1 innings while giving up three hits, striking out five, and walking four.

Scott Weinschenk picked up the win to move to 2-0, as he went six innings, gave up eight hits, walked three, and struck out nine.

LC falls to 1-6 on the season with the loss with an 0-4 mark in ASC play while Concordia continues to lead the ASC with a 7-1 overall record and a 4-0 mark in conference play. The two teams will square off again tomorrow in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
