Â
A four run first inning by LeTourneau was too much for Louisiana College to overcome, as the Yellow Jackets carried the momentum they seized from Friday night to take a 5-3 win over the Wildcats in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Â
After their bats were silenced by LeTourneau's pitchers on Friday, the Wildcats appeared to find the offensive life they had anticipated all season when they took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning off of Yellow Jacket ace Cody Whitley.
Â
The scoring started when LC senior third baseman
Taylor Beavers drove in outfielder
Jermaine Liggins on an RBI single and was followed with a
Kyle Feazell RBI single that scored first baseman
Matt Scott. Beavers would then come around to score on a
Garrett Parsons RBI double as the Wildcats nearly matched their season run total of four in the first inning.
Â
But that momentum would not last long, as the Yellow Jackets stormed back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs, three of which were unearned, on five hits off of Wildcat staff ace
Madison Lachney.
The Wildcat bats would record just one hit the rest of the way, that coming on a
Taylor Beavers sixth inning single, while LeTourneau would get an insurance run in the third inning on a solo home run to right field off the bat of first baseman Garrett Methvin.
Â
Whitley went six innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts to move to 2-0 on the year. Lachney took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year despite tossing a complete game and giving up two earned runs.

Game Two Box Score
Â
The Yellow Jackets would get all 10 of their runs in game two in the first, third, and seventh innings on their way to a 10-6 win in game two of the doubleheader to secure the ASC opening weekend series sweep.
Â
LeTourneau brought two runs across in the first inning on a Ryan Bertram RBI sac fly to right field and a David Perkins RBI walk to take an early 2-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets would extend their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third with three runs on four hits off of LC starter
Taylor Beavers, who was relieved after 2.2 innings of work, giving up nine hits and five earned runs.
Â
LC would scratch their way back into the game with a
Tyler Wallace RI sac fly in the fourth inning, a
Kyle Feazell solo home run in the fifth inning, and a wild pitch from Yellow Jacket reliever Jordan Price that scored Wildcat leadoff hitter
Darien Bartie.
Â
But the LC bullpen was unable to hold LeTourneau's hot bats down in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Yellow Jackets immediately responded with five runs on four hits and two Wildcat errors, highlighted by a back-breaking two-run single by LeTourneau catcher Dillon Yates that brought home Jordan Argabright and Quinn Branklin.
Â
LC would fight back to score two runs in the eighth inning on a fielding error by third baseman Ryan Bertram that scored
Matt Scott and pinch runner
Cody McNeal. Freshman catcher
Brennan Castello then added a long pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the ninth inning in his first career at-bat off of LeTourneau reliever Christian Baker.
Â
The Wildcats fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in ASC play with the conference opening sweep. They will prepare for a midweek matchup with Castleton State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night in Pineville.
