The Louisiana College Wildcats took a step up in competition on Wednesday night, as they took on in-state Division I opponent McNeese State in Lake Charles, falling by a final score of 11-2.
The Cowboys got on the board first when McNeese State shortstop Connor Lloyd reached on an error by LC left fielder
Mark Riendeau, scoring Andrew Guillote.
McNeese would add two more in the second when Jackson Gooch hit a two-run single to left field to drive in Guillotte and Sam Peterson.
LC would scratch a run across in the top of the fifth inning when
Darien Bartie snuck a single past Cowboy pitcher Lance Sefcik to drive in
Taylor Beavers.
McNeese would respond back immediately with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in the bottom of the sixth inning before LC scored their final run on a
Will Cox RBI groundout to first base in the top of the seventh inning.
Madison Lachney took the loss for LC to move to 0-1 on the year, as the Wildcats were able to send 10 pitchers to the mound in preparation for Friday's ASC opener against LeTourneau.
Taylor Beavers led LC at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored while LC pitchers struck out 11 McNeese batters on the night.
The Wildcats now sit at 1-2 on the season, with Friday's 6 p.m. matchup against the LeTourneau Yellow Jackets looming in their conference opener.
