Louisiana College came up on the wrong end of a 12-10 decision to East Texas Baptist after a roller coaster, marathon of a game Friday night at Wildcat Field.
The Wildcats seemed to take control of the game in the fourth inning when
Taylor Beavers hit a three-run double down the left field line to put LC ahead 6-4. However, ETBU would tie it with one run frames in both the sixth and seventh innings.
LC would again seize the momentum in the seventh inning, however, as
Kyle Feazell was hit by a pitch but called back into the box for leaning over the plate. The junior catcher from Oak Hill High School would answer with a two-run home run to deep left field just a few pitches later to put LC ahead 8-6.
Two more runs in the Wildcats' half of the eighth inning put them ahead 10-6 and appeared to be the final nail in the coffin of a big Friday night ASC win of a longtime conference foe.
However, a Jeremy Pinder fly ball down the left field line with two outs in the ninth found just enough grass to fall, turning a potential game-ending out for the Wildcats into an RBI double for the Tigers. ETBU would then tie the game 10-10 with a two-run single from Chris Abascal one batter later off of LC starter
Madison Lachney, who worked the first nine innings for LC.
LC would then have the potential game-winning run in scoring position in the 9
th, 10
th, and 11
th innings, but was unable to capitalize.
ETBU would finally break the tie in the top of the 12
th inning with a two-run single from Garret Parsons off of LC reliever
Chris Bridges that gave the Tigers a 12-10 lead. Parsons would finish with five RBI on the night to lead ETBU.
The loss came despite one of the best offensive outings of the year for the Wildcats' hitters, as they banged out 18 hits, including four from senior outfielder
Cole Bagbey and three a piece from
Matt Scott and
Cary Myers.
The loss drops LC's ASC record to 6-4, which puts them in a tie with ETBU for second place in the ASC East. The two teams will square off on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at noon at Wildcat Field.
