After dropping their first game Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Louisiana College baseball team found themselves in a must-win scenario against the Crusaders on Saturday night at Wildcat Field.

Luckily for the Wildcats, they had junior right-hander Madison Lachney on the mound.

Lachney, who had been LC's starter on Friday night for the majority of the season, waited patiently for his chance to send the Wildcats to their first ever ASC Championship Tournament, and delivered the gutsiest outing of his career in a 5-3 LC victory.

The Iowa, LA native tossed his fourth complete game of the season against a feisty hitting Crusader team, scattering nine hits, walking one, and giving up three earned runs to give the Wildcats the win.

Senior Outfielder Cole Bagbey, who was named Co-MVP of the series against UMHB along with Seth Webster was 1-for-1 at the plate with three RBI and three walks.

The Wildcats tied the game at 1-1 when catcher Kyle Feazell launched a solo shot over the left field wall. The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning, when LC would score three runs on three hits, all coming with two outs.

Junior third baseman Taylor Beavers came to the plate with two outs and nobody on when he ripped a single to center. Cary Myers followed that with a single of his own. Will Currier was then hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Freshman shortstop Colt Ducote, was not expected to play in 2013 due to an arm injury, then drew a bases loaded walk to score Beavers. Bagbey would then provide the big blow, a two-run single to right field, scoring Myers and pinch runner Cody McNeal.

The Crusaders would answer back with two runs in their half of the eighth inning to make it 4-3. LC would answer right back in the bottom of the eigth, however, as Bagbey walked with the bases loaded to score Myers.

Lachney would then retire the side in order in the ninth to clinch LC's spot in the Championship Tournament.

The Wildcats (24-17) will take on ASC West Division Champion Texas Lutheran in the first round of the Tournament, which will begin next Friday.
